Manila, Philippines—University of the Philippines will be holding Makers ShowUP, a free one-day maker event on May 15, 2017 at the College of Engineering grounds in Quezon City. Hosted by the Department of Mining, Metallurgical, and Materials Engineering (DMMME), the event will feature workshops for avid makers and showcase the work of designers, engineers, artists, inventors, and tinkerers through interactive booths.
The whole-day event aims to promote maker culture — a social movement that seeks to empower individuals to become producers instead of being mere consumers. The movement celebrates artisanship and the DIY spirit, taking advantage of advances in desktop fabrication technologies like 3D printing and prototyping platforms like Arduino to allow innovation and creation at the personal scale.
Makers who are exploring new forms and new technologies across the spectrum of science, engineering, art, performance, and craft will have interactive booths where they can share and showcase their work.
The whole-day event is open to the public.
